Got to see this at the AMC and holy cow this was so enjoyable on the big screen. The plot is still nonsense, even if you’ve read the book, but the vibes? The vibes are excellent. The steam-punk fantasy early 20th century setting is beautifully rendered in the hand drawn landscapes. The association of magic with corruption and disgust, while still making magic users human beings who can be bent to the will of nations is a truly unique dynamic. The castle itself looks and moves like nothing else in the movie which is unsettling and captivating.
